New work by Tim Lane - 'Revelations' at Knifesmith Gallery

Detail from Jekyll & Hyde (2010) by Tim Lane

New originals further explore Tim's interest in themes from classical mythology and classic literature. Images explore the existence or non-existence of salvation after death and the afterlife and the destructive forces of human hubris and the corruption of power. The title of the show plays on the biblical reference with its apocalyptic visions and moral punishments and also on the realisations of human weaknesses with the unfolding stories of corruption of figures of power in our society. www.knifesmithgallery.co.uk

'Revelations' at Knifesmith Gallery

A second solo show at Knifesmith in Bristol is a chance to see Tim's latest collection of original works

Tim's new work further explore his interest in themes from classical mythology and classic literature. Lane’s images explore the existence or non-existence of salvation after death and the afterlife and the destructive forces of human hubris and the corruption of power. The title of the show plays on the biblical reference with its apocalyptic visions and moral punishments and also on the realisations of human weaknesses with the unfolding stories of corruption of figures of power in our society.

Tim Lane’s hybrid drawing/painting style contains both emotional intensity and theatricality whilst revealing human frailties though the imagery that it appropriates from familiar narratives.

This new work, whilst marking a crystallization of Tim’s own compelling and accessible style, still has visible echoes of other dark artists as diverse as Arthur Rackham, William Blake, Ralph Steadman and Tim Burton. Pieces from this collection of originals include ‘Leviathan’, ‘Jekyll and Hyde’, ‘The Grand Inquisitor’ , ‘Faustus’ and ‘The Battle of Love and Hate’.

Tim has sold and exhibited work in various galleries in and around Bristol and has won awards for his painting including the ‘Bristol Visual Arts Consortium Award’ and Bristol Art Show 07 at Centrespace Gallery.
